Ace Reward

February 5: At this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Daniel received a splendid gift in recognition of the two holes in one he made in 2012.

An ornate box with the two balls he used and images of the holes was passed to him by five of the club’s owners on the first tee during his practice round on Wednesday. It was in a practice round at Pebble Beach Golf Links that Daniel aced the postage stamp par-three seventh hole before recording another at the 17th hole.

He used a 50-degree wedge from 104 yards on the seventh, then struck again with a seven-iron from 176 yards on the penultimate hole. “I am truly thankful to Pebble Beach for taking time to prepare and present this piece of memorabilia,” said Daniel. “It was a special day that I will never forget and I could not think of a better place for this to happen.”

Daniel has a trio of aces in tournament competition in consecutive seasons. They began in 2007, when he used a five-iron at TPC Louisiana’s 17th hole to make an ace in the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. In 2008’s Bob Hope Classic, the talented golfer drained an eight-iron from 173 yards at the 14th hole of SilverRock Resort. At the 2009 Barclays, he used a six-iron at the fourth hole of Liberty National to make a third-round ace.
